Making Holiday Memories

This week is unusual for us this year.  We are usually take off the day after Christmas to visit family, but this year is different.  This year we had to stay home, so we decided to make the best of it.

My daughter put on performances of singing, “playing” the guitar, and dancing.  She made a stage of the one step in our house, placed chairs in the kitchen door across the foyer from the “stage” and danced in the foyer.  They were complete with lighting effects.  The last performance was all about how much she loved her mom…it was my favorite.

A simple, fantastic holiday memory that cost absolutely nothing.

We also went to a matinee movie, played in the snow, played games, cooked together, and toured the Enchanted Garden of Lights at Rock City.

Rock City is on Lookout Mountain in Georgia and is probably most famous for its old advertising campaign of painting “See Rock City” on barns.

We have an annual pass and utilized the fact that we could see the holiday lights  for free from Sunday to Wednesday nights.

Luckily, it was not too cold because we had not planned to go when we left the house, thus my husband and I were not properly prepared to walk in the cold night for an hour or so.

We enjoyed it anyway.

Not only were the lights fantastic, there was great live music in a warmer pavilion. Plus, there were snacks, face painting and gingerbread decorating available at an extra cost.

The entire garden area was donned in holiday decorations including the famous scenes in Fairyland Caverns and Mother Goose Village.

Next year, we need to go earlier in December so we can chat with Santa as he could be found there until just before Christmas this year.

It is still going on tonight and tomorrow night this year if you are in the area. The last ticket is sold at 9 p.m.

It would have been great if the Holidays could have ended on such an up note. However, New Year’s Eve Day was spent in part in the waiting room at the pediatricians office with my sick daughter getting exposed to the flu and the stomach bug going around 🙁 No, it was not because she was not dressed properly for the night tour. She was outfitted well in L.L. Bean outerwear. Unfortunately, I was right in believing she was trying to hide the fact she was not feeling well before we left.

Here is hoping you have a safe and Happy New Year’s Eve. We may set off some sparklers later. . .if the storms do not arrive first. . .
