Baking soda is great! Maybe I should start a fan club for it. I could make buttons, stickers, posters, and of course a website. I am sure it would gather lots of members once people realized the versatility of baking soda.
Sure, you can use it in baking, but why stop there. It can be used on bee stings, and as an air freshener in the fridge, and for toothpaste in a pinch.
Here are some other ways I use baking soda:
- In the hot tub – to adjust the ph and to clean the fiberglass (with caution)
- On the carpet – to get rid of odors
- In the sink – combined with vinegar it not only makes for a volcano experiment, but as a minor clog remover and cleaner as well
- In the fridge – it can be used on a damp sponge to get rid of stuck on spills and deodorize at the same time.
- In sneakers – to make them smell better
- As a relief from gas – okay, my dad did this not me. He would add some baking soda to a few ounces of water and drink. Sorry, I don’t know the amounts–I don’t think he measured. I can say from being forced to drink it that it worked but tasted gross.
- To put out a stove top fire – don’t ask, just know it worked.
- On laundry – to treat a grease spot
- In laundry – to boost bleach and to help laundry detergent as well.
- In microwave – to scrub the greasy stuff off the sides and top
- In my hair – when camping for several days to absorb the oil and help get rid of some of the campfire smell – sort of a dry shampoo
I know there must be more great uses. Let me know if you have any. The fan club may take a while to get started, so you probably should just comment on this site for now.
