It was a hot and humid day twelve years today. It was our wedding. My hair curled and frizzed beyond belief. But, we had a nice ceremony anyway.
We had to have two ministers because the one we really wanted had moved to another church and because he was not fully ordained, he could not perform the ceremony at our church (even though he was the minister there a few of months before our wedding). It was church politics in my eyes. Anyway, we had the minister I knew and trusted and the minister I watched turn a Baptism into a debacle just a month or so before our wedding.
We decided to have Communion as part of the ceremony. Let’s just say that both ministers were nervous and my dress was almost white and purple.
In the end, there were some verses and the “Kiss the Bride” part left out of the ceremony. But, it was a nice wedding anyway.
The reception was outside in the heat on my parents lawn. We had a tent (yes, like a circus or carnival), but it was hot despite hand fans.
I was really glad we decided to rent the Sno-Kone machine (yes, also like a circus or carnival) even if we had to put it in my parents’ garage.
We catered the wedding ourselves (yes, it was foolish, but I thought we were saving money – we probably did save money). The only thing I really splurged on was the cake. I really thought the butter cream icing would melt, but the fan that was blowing on it really saved the cake.
Our wedding was not fancy or expensive. We could have even spent less (we bought way too much food). I was old enough to know that the important part of marriage is not the wedding day but all the days that followed.
Fast forward to today, it is hot and humid. My husband though is away on business. He spent most of today traveling to only find his luggage was lost. The only time he was able to call was when I was in church. I only got to hear from him through a text message. Yes, I have a great marriage. But our anniversary is not always so great.
Galileo was glad there was a sno-cone machine too.
So I heard. . .like he needed sugar to make him hyper.
And it turned his mouth blue!!!
I remember that day and your beautiful wedding. I don’t remember the heat/humidity. Too much food? Wasn’t that Aunt Gladys’ mantra??? There was always TONS of food at your house whether it be a family reunion, celebrating a graduation from high school or wedding! Good times!
Yes, that was Mom. I guess we have followed in her footsteps. . .
It really was good times.
