Christmas Traditions

I just realized that our Christmas Pickle ornament broke last year and I have not bought a replacement. I need to order one soon. It needs to be here in time to be hidden in the tree so it can be found on Christmas morning for good luck.

It has been one of our Christmas traditions that extended from my family growing up. We still have several traditions that I used to do with my family when I was younger.

In addition to the pickle, we hang a bird’s nest and a pig in the tree (just not hidden) to bring good fortune.

We also burn bayberry candles on Christmas Eve down to the sockets to bring good “health to the home and money to the pockets.” However, we have not been able to do this every year as I have had a hard time finding real bayberry wax candles in my area.

The hardest part, other than getting the candles, is making sure they burn long enough to get all the way down to the sockets. After all, they can’t be left burning when you leave the house to visit family or go to church.

We actually have quite a few other traditions. However, the most important ones are about family, friends, and the celebration of the birth of Jesus. After all, that is what the season is all about.

What are some of your Christmas traditions?
